Hugo Garcia leads the next wave as Fremantle floods the young side

Round 18's Team of the Week for players under 50 games has a St Kilda kid on top and a Fremantle cluster underneath. This is the future, judged on one weekend.

01The Team

Here is the round through one lens only: the best in every position from players still inside their first 50 games. One per spot, the next wave laid out end to end.

And the shape of it points west. Fremantle got three of their kids into this side, more young talent in a single round than any other club could muster. When one club stacks the graphic like that, it tells you where the round's energy came from.

The rest is spread across the competition, but the green end is what jumps out. Noah Mraz is two games into his career and he is in the side. Angus Anderson at ten, Zeke Uwland at fourteen. Barely started, already here.

02The Standout

Hugo Garcia is the one on top. Of everyone still under 50 games, the young St Kilda man had the biggest round of the lot.

He did not just sneak into the side, he led it. The best round of anyone in the tier, the pick of a deep young field. When the future gets ranked on a single weekend, Garcia was the name above the rest.

03What It Tells Us

Look under the selection and the story is how many good rounds it could not fit. Six players under 50 games did enough to make this side most weeks and still got squeezed out. The young tier ran that deep.

The stiffest to miss read like a side of their own. Bruce Reville at the Lions, Willem Duursma at West Coast, Joel Fitzgerald at Melbourne, Ryan Angwin at the Giants. Any other week, plenty of them walk straight in.

That is the real headline of the round. Not that a handful of kids played well, but that so many did the field could not hold them all. Fremantle got three through the door and the rest of the competition kept knocking.

04You Weigh It

So that is the round's best young side, on the engine's read. Garcia on top, three Dockers underneath, and a bench of unlucky ones as good as some of the names picked.

Argue it. Push Reville or Duursma into the eighteen, back Fitzgerald or Angwin over a bolter. The graphic shows the team. The debate is yours.

You weigh it

That is the next wave's best round on the engine's numbers, one per position — under 50 games each. Small samples, real games: who kicks on is yours to watch.
